Two major constraints represent the challenge to build on the site:
One: A narrow but deep plot surrounded by big neighbouring houses.
Two: High walls marking the boundaries and forming the public space.

These walls and fences are the traditional boundary between the street and the private property. Standing in the middle of the plot, the house itself usually is dislocated from the walls. As the plot is very narrow, it is almost impossible to create a single volume of appropriate surface in the middle of the plot that respects the traditional distance to the boundary and at the same time ensures maximum utility of this space.

The solution are three single solids hiding behind the wall and dividing the plot into three courts of different character. This constellation gives the ground floor a comfortable size and structures on the other side the outer space.

Another solid containing the private rooms of the house is set on top of the ground floor. The parents' sector is situated in the north while a void above the central hall divides it from the children's rooms in the south. It is the only part of the house visible from the street. With its well-designed proportions matching up with the size of the plot, it conveys aesthetical demands and understatement at the same time.
